10 Days in Zanzibar

Zanzibar is a true paradise, offering a variety of activities for visitors. Whether you want to relax on the beach, learn about the island’s history, or explore the surrounding area, Zanzibar has something for everyone. With its beautiful beaches, rich cultural heritage, and diverse range of activities, this little piece of paradise is a must-visit destination

1-2: Spend Time in Stone Town

Stone Town, also known as Zanzibar City, is the first stop for many travelers to Zanzibar. It can be reached by either airplane or ferry from mainland Tanzania and is located about a 20-minute drive from the airport. Stone Town is a beautiful and historic city with plenty of cafes, restaurants, and activities to enjoy, such as day trips to nearby islands like Prison Island and Nakupenda Island. It is also home to important landmarks and cultural sites, such as the port, spice market, and the tragic history of the slave trade. While Stone Town is a great place to visit, the beaches are not as breathtaking as those found elsewhere on the island. It is therefore recommended to stay in the city for only two nights, allowing time to explore its attractions while also leaving room to visit other parts of Zanzibar with more stunning beaches.

3-5: Enjoy Beach Life in Nungwi Beach

Stone Town, also known as Zanzibar City, is the first stop for many visitors to Zanzibar. It is the capital of the island and can be reached by airplane or ferry from the mainland of Tanzania. The airport is a short drive from the center of Stone Town, making it a convenient place to stay for the first few days of your trip.

Stone Town is a charming and historic city with plenty of things to see and do. There are numerous cafes and restaurants with beautiful sunset views, as well as day trips to nearby islands like Prison Island and Nakupenda Island. The city also has a rich history and cultural significance, with landmarks such as the port and spice market, as well as a tragic past related to the slave trade.

While Stone Town has many attractions, the beaches are not as picturesque as those found in other parts of the island. The water is swimmable, but the sand is not as white and the water is not as clear as on other beaches in Zanzibar. For this reason, it is recommended to only stay in Stone Town for two nights, allowing enough time to explore the city but also leaving room to visit other parts of the island with more beautiful beaches.

6-9: Paje/Bwenjuu (3 Nights)

The East Coast of Zanzibar is known for its peaceful atmosphere, beautiful beaches and towns, and delicious food. It is a great place to relax and has many interesting things to do, such as visiting the Jozani forest or dining at the Rock Restaurant. While the beaches have fluctuating tides that can make swimming difficult in the morning, the East Coast makes up for this with its excellent food and peaceful atmosphere.

Stone Town (1 Night)

It is convenient to stay in Stone Town the night before a flight because the airport is only a short drive away, and it allows for last-minute shopping and the opportunity to retrieve COVID-19 test results. The author’s trip to Zanzibar was exceptional and they wished they could have stayed there indefinitely, even though they typically do not like to revisit places they have already been.
